Why You Should Go...

Welcome to Ohio Amish Country

Whether you're looking to immerse yourself in a rich culture, hop on a tour, enjoy a little comfort food or find your bliss away from the every day, you'll find what you are looking for here in Ohio Amish Country. Like much of Ohio, Holmes County once represented the western frontier to pioneering Americans. The Amish and Mennonites migrated here in the early 1800s. Rich resources and farmlands provided incentives for easterners to journey to these rolling hills; solitude and successful homesteading created a reason to stay.

Insider Info

Most of the state and federal highways in Holmes County are designated as an Amish Country Byway. Enjoy the views, but drive carefully as others will be enjoying the scenery as well.

Please don't photograph the Amish, especially if their faces are visible. Too, many businesses in Amish country are closed on Sundays and Holidays, so plan your trip accordingly.

Share the roads with buggies and farm equipment. If a driver's left hand is fully extended, this is a left-turn signal.

Fun Facts

Amish Country doesn’t have official opening and closing times. If you enjoy having space at your attraction spots, arrive early and begin the day at 8-9 a.m. If you want a leisurely meander, many attractions and shops are open until 5-6 p.m., and restaurants will be open into early evening.

Look for roadside produce stands during your journey. Carry cash for these. Some may operate on the honor system. And if you’d like the experience of getting into the berry patch yourself, check in with Moreland Fruit Farm on their seasonal you-pick options.
