Insider Info

Intercourse prides itself on its walkability, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes if you plan on doing a lot of exploring.

The Village of Intercourse is a year-round attraction with each season offering a unique way of experiencing what we have to offer. Most shops are open in the slower-paced off-season (January - March).

Fun Facts

There are many theories about the town's name. Intercourse used to sit by a racecourse, where the entry was coined “Entercourse” and may have evolved into Intercourse. Or, it may have come from the Intersection of two major roads, Old Kings Highway and the route from Wilmington, Delaware to Erie, PA.

One final theory suggests the town was named after a phrase commonly used at the time of the town's founding. In early English, Intercourse was used to refer to fellowship and social interaction shared in a community of faith, a description still relevant to the town today.

Make sure to visit the Community Park on the east end of town with access and parking off of Route 340. The park includes a walking trail, pond, and picnic areas.
