Fun Facts

The Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts has a history as intriguing as the art located inside the building. Built by early entrepreneurs in the 1840s, the facility has operated as a tavern, inn, dairy farm and partial post office for early travelers on the Oxcart Trail.

Before the Banfill Tavern was built, the area was used for a sawmill and lumber camp.

The gardens around the building are maintained by a group of volunteers nicknamed the Dirty Dozen. Each gardener maintains their own separate area of the gardens using their own vision for the space.
